Reusable School Meal Systems Grant - Sample Language

Purpose of Grant
This grant supports the establishment of reusable foodware systems in schools as a preventive health initiative that reduces waste, protects children’s health, and strengthens school nutrition infrastructure.

Use of Funds
Grant funds may be used to support all costs necessary to successfully implement reusable meal service, including but not limited to:

  • Purchase or trial of commercial dishwashers and related kitchen infrastructure
  • Procurement of durable reusable foodware, including triple certified stainless steel trays, bowls, cups, and utensils (e.g., green screen, NSF and Made Safe)
  • Labor and staffing support, including additional hours, temporary staffing, or training required to operate reusable systems
  • Installation, logistics, and operational needs, including racks, carts, storage, and workflow adjustments
  • Education, technical assistance, and program support to ensure successful adoption and long-term sustainability
Grant Structure
This may be structured as:
  • A one-time implementation grant, or
  • A pilot or phased grant to allow schools to test and scale reusable system
Funds are intended to help schools transition away from disposable foodware and reinvest savings into healthier meals for students.
