The curriculum
We have partnered with The Smurfs™ to create this easy-to-follow, fun, educational curriculum to improve environmental literacy—teaching students about healthy, sustainable, responsible choices at mealtime. We are turning the cafeteria into a classroom and helping you meet United Nations Sustainable Development goals and Next Generation Science Standards!
Day 1: Awareness
Start your adventure with a comic-style Smurf read-along. The story is divided into 3 parts and will be read over 3 days. Follow this with an interactive presentation on what humans, plants and animals need to live.
Day 2: Awareness
Watch a 2-minute video that talks about the problems with using something just one time, specifically, a single-use plastic water bottle. Follow this with an interactive presentation that addresses how what we do affects our planet.
Day 3: Problem-Solving
Continue the Smurf adventure with part 2 of the read-along. Follow this with an activity that will teach students about innovative ways to reuse things they already have.
Day 4: Advocacy
Ready the last part of the Smurfs story, and follow it with a 2-minute video that shows how KIDS around the world are leading efforts of change! End with an activity to spread the word to other students at your school.
Day 5: Advocacy & Reflection
Watch a fun, 1-minute video summarizing the Smurfs partnership with the United Nations to promote its 17 sustainability goals. Then discuss with your students how it felt to help the Smurf village, their school and even their own family.
